Side Hustlin' is a Passion

As you may or may not know (depending on if we have ever met and had this conversation), I am a full-time, high school art teacher. I have been teaching for 20.5 years now (I started when I was 10! Ha!!) And, according to the state of Texas and TRS, I am eligible for retirement in 2026! There have been times throughout my career, when I was single, where I worked a second part-time job. It was never a necessity but I had been known to have "champagne taste on a beer budget"! So, in 2015, after an intense recovery...

I got married!!!

I will say that this year (2019) has proven to be an extremely busy one so far. I've been absent from markets and neglecting this site as well as social media sites. But, my reason is completely justifiable - I GOT MARRIED!!! And, with planning life events, some things fall by the wayside.  Our wedding was small with family and a few close friends. It was held at Central Lutheran Church in Dallas, TX and our reception was at Rosalind Coffee in Garland, TX. It was absolutely the happiest day ever! We spent our wedding night at the Cambria Hotel...

Welcome to my glittery sawdust world!

Hello! Thank you for visiting my online shop (or for visiting me at a marketplace/vendor fair)!! My name is Cheryl and The Crafty Ginger is my passion project. I'll tell you more about that in a minute... But first, I am a born and raised Texas lady. I grew up in Mesquite, TX, graduated from (Southwest) Texas State University in San Marcos and currently teach high school art in Texas. So, I love this state and all things Texas because this is home. While I've always done creative, artistic things, I've never felt 100% passionate about what I did (I could draw...

The Beauty of the Blanket Ladder

The Beauty of the Blanket Ladder

The blanket ladder is one of the greatest decor necessities in my home! I love, love, love it! You see, I live in Texas and we have winterish every other week or so. So, my blankets are on and off my ladder constantly! This ladder is more than a decorative piece in my home. It's functional. The warmer weather we had this week (it was in the 80s on Tuesday) has me thinking of what I will do with this little beauty once I hide the warm, fuzzy blankets due to the warmer/hotter months. As I often do when I have a query...

DIY: Ribbon Curtain Photo Backdrop

I was asked by a 16 year old birthday girl to make a photo backdrop for her and her friends for her party. So, I made a ribbon curtain backdrop for the occasion! It is actually pretty simple and the end result is adorable! These ribbon curtains photograph really well and look great under any photo filter.  Supplies (contains Amazon affiliate links): Scrap wood cut to the Ribbon. TONS of it! I try to get the ribbon WITHOUT the wired edge. Get different patterns, widths, textures, colors, etc. I found sampler packs of ribbons like these on Amazon  Scissors Hot glue gun & glue sticks Beads...
